We are focusing on Gator Amp Cases, because we think they are a quality product, but we may also talk about other brands, and amps, and tips and tricks, as well.
First off, why an amp case? When you are traveling you will need to protect your expensive equipment. The more you travel and the more you or the crew, unload, load and setup your equipment the more chance that it can get damaged. A damaged amp will not only cost you in the long run, you could run the risk of ruining your show. Which will cause your reputation damage too. One of the most difficult problems people have when it comes to choosing a case for their amp is finding the right size. Some manufacturers will be glad to help you out with brands and appropriate cases. It is also good to deal with dealers who have qualified employees, who are actually experienced at using the equipment they sell. For those who end up shopping without the best sales advice available, here is an easy way to ensure that you get the correct case for your equipment.
Measure your equipment. Try get the correct dimensions. Remember the old carpenter’s adage, measure twice, cut once. So get the most accurate measurements possible, then choose a case with dimensions that fit your measurements closely. To measure choose your unit of measurement, either inches or millimeters, then measure the width and the length and then, the height. The width is the longest side, the length is the other shorter side, and the height is the actual height after you have already gotten your width and length dimensions.
If there is some room in the case you can always add Polyethylene Foam as a cushion. PE Foam is used for many purposes and it is a great cushioning material. It will absorb most shocks and protect even fragile glassware. Hockey players even use PE in their protective equipment, because of it’s great shock absorbing properties. In fact some people prefer to leave a little room in the case so that they can use the PE Foam as a cushion, to protect their amps from jars and jolts.
Depending on your needs you can find combo cases in heavy duty plastic and wood frame combos. Most have the transporter/stand combo, which is very convenient for most musicians, and their crew, alike. There are also specific cases designed for your specific product, so always do your due diligence before choosing the proper case.
Fender Footswitch
There is more to playing the electric guitar than just playing guitar. You actually need to know how to use your amplifier, as well. Some amps just amplify sound, while most will add effects to your music. Some of the popular effects are distortion and reverb. Have you ever wondered how your favorite rock star gets so many different sounds out of his guitar without ever stopping to change the settings? Chances are he is using a footswitch. A footswitch will control the sound and other settings by pushing a button with your foot.
In order to use a footswitch you first need to set everything up. First thing you need to do is connect the power cord and the cord from your amp to your guitar. Turn your volume knobs on your guitar and amp to zero, before turning the amp on, to avoid feedback. Then plug in your footswitch. Now turn your amp on and adjust the volume. Now adjust the low, mid, and high knobs on your equalizer and the tone knobs on your guitar. Then adjust your reverb and distortion, if your amp has these added effects then you will be able to control them with your footswitch also.
One of the most popular guitar and amp combos is the Fender guitar and amp. Consequently one of the most popular footswitch brands is the Fender footswitch. A very popular Fender footswitch is the G-DEC 30 which is used with the same amp. These usually have 4 modes which allow you to select quick access presets, select up or down presets and stop and start the band presets. You can also overdub with the phrase sampler. The footswitch also has a tuner mode, that can be selected with the left most button.
A Fender footswitch is usually compatible with a corresponding Fender amp. Some of the old one and two button Fender footswitches will work with most any brand of amp.
